Vietnam Weather in August 2018

In North Vietnam, August is middle of the rainy and typhoon season. In August 2018, the 4th typhoon, which lessened to be a tropical depression when hitting the coast, caused heavy rains the North East, North West and North of the Central Region of Vietnam. Floods were found at Phu Tho, Son La, Yen Bai.

 Coming towards the end of the month, there were heavy rains in the North East of Vietnam (Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh), the North West of Vietnam (Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Son La, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Lai Chau.), North of the Central Region of Vietnam (Nghe An, Thanh Hoa). Son La was flooded at the end of the month. The temperatures range from 23-33oC.

The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) has similar weather pattern to the North of Vietnam. There were floods repeatedly in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An. There were serious floods in Muong Lat, Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc (including Pu Luong Nature Reserve) and Hoi Xuan of Thanh Hoa Province and Ky Son of Nghe An at end of the month. In August, Quang Binh and Quang Tri still enjoyed mostly sunshine with temperatures from 26-37oC.

The rest of the Central Region of Vietnam had been in the rainy season for a while with short-lived rains in July. Coming into August, along the coast from Hue to Binh Thuan (including Da Nang, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa) and the Central Highlands there were longer-lasting rains. The temperatures range from 26-37oC and 21-31oC in the Central Highlands.

In South Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau and the Mekong Delta), August is the rainy season with short-lived rains every day. The temperatures ranged from 26-33oC.
