How to travel from Hue to Vietnam's DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) – Quang Tri

Vietnam's former DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is in Quang Tri Province. Visiting the DMZ is an interesting place for war veterans and those interested in learning about the recent history of Vietnam.  By private car: the road trip by private car from Hue to Vietnam's DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is 70km via Route 1 which takes 1 hour. The trip travels through many historical sites which mark important point during the war. Traveling by a private car allows you to stop and visit these sites.

By local bus: There are several daily buses from Hue to Dong Ha City from Northern Bus Station of Hue City. Also there are several tourist buses leaving Hue for Dong Ha in the morning from the city center.

By train: There are daily trains from Hue to Dong Ha City with soft seat cabins and sleeper cabins. The train journey takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. Hue Train Station is 1km from the city center and Dong Ha Train Station is 2km from the city center. The train times may not be that convenient.

By motorbike: Travel to Vietnam's DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) from Hue by motorbike is an adventure not for everyone. The road is busy and may not be safe for most Westerners. If you love traveling by motorbike and have some time getting used to riding in Vietnam’ traffic, then you may want to take on this trip.

By bicycle: It is possible to travel to Vietnam's DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) from Hue by bicycle. The trip takes a full day. Mind the traffic on your travel then.
