The road trip by private car from Hue to Dong Hoi passes the DMZ with several historical sites and myriads deserted beaches: Quang Tri Citadel, Cua Viet, Cua Dong, the DMZ, former demarcation line between North and South Vietnam. The road is in good conditions and the traffic can be very busy.

There are many tourist buses which depart Hue for Dong Hoi every day from the city center of Northern Bus Station. The travel time is about 3 hours.

There are many trains from Hue to Dong Hoi with soft seat cabins and sleeper cabins. The train journeys take 4 hours.
4/ By motorbike
Travel to Dong Hoi from Hue by motorbike is an adventure which takes 4-5 hours. The road is very busy and traffic can be reckless. There are several tourist attractions that you can visit on the way.
5/ By bicycle
It is possible to travel to Dong Hoi from Hue by bicycle but it requires 2 days. It is recommended to break the journey with overnight stay at Dong Ha City in the heart of the former DMZ of Vietnam.
