General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in May
May is summer in northern Vietnam with mostly dry weather, possibly some showers, pleasant or warm temperatures (24oC-30oC) .
May is the dry season with warm or hot temperatures in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
May is the beginning of the rainy season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam. The temperatures in the Central Highlands are 20-36oC and those in southern Vietnam are 27-36oC.
The prevalent winds in Vietnam in May are
- The Southeasterly Wind that affects northern Vietnam and causes moist air in the Red River Delta.
- The Southwesterly Wind coming from the Bengal Bay or the Equator which is a foehn wind and which causes dry weather with warm temperatures in the low altitude places of the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
- The Westerly Wind, which is in fact the Southwesterly Wind, affects the Central Coast of Vietnam and part of the Northwest of the country such as Son La, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai. The affected places are often to have dry weather with warm or hot temperatures (24-36oC).
Possible Dangers From Extreme Weather: Snow in the mountains of the North of Vietnam
There are rarely chances of dangerous weather in Vietnam in May. If any, it should be from hails which may be found in Ha Giang, Hoa Binh and Son La Provinces.
