How to travel from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to Pleiku

Pleiku is 530km north of Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon). Pleiku is located on the Pleiku Plateau, one in a series of plateaus in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The convenient means of transportation to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku are as follows:

 By air: Pleiku is the capital city of Gia Lai Province; the city is 1 hour flight from Saigon and there are daily flights between the 2 cities. The airport in Saigon is 8km from the city center and Pleiku Airport is 7km from Pleiku city center.

By private car: The road from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku is in good conditions and it is pretty scenic with rolling hills as you climb upon the plateau. The journey takes over 12 hours.

By local bus: There are several bus companies operating daily buses from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku. The trip starts from Ho Chi Minh City’s Eastern Bus Station and concludes at Pleiku Duc Long Bus Station. The journey takes over 12 hours.

By motorbike: Pleiku surely can be reached by motorbike from Saigon, the trip takes a couple of days. You can take the shorter route via Road 14C to the west or the route via Da Lat and Buon Ma Thuot. The latter is more scenic with lovely mountains and plateaus.

By bicycle: Road trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku by bicycle should take more than a few days. It is a hard adventure and requires good physical exertion and great cycling passion. It is recommended to make overnight stop at several tourist sites on the way.
