Dong Khe Town is in Thach An District, Cao Bang Province. Dong Khe is a beautiful town with several mountain peaks around alternated by idyllic rice fields.
Travel Guide to Dong Khe, Cao Bang
During the Franco-Viet Minh War (1946-1954), Route 4C (Route 4A now) was an important French supply route for their strategically important outpost in Cao Bang. The French post at Dong Khe was vital to the flow of supply on Route 4C then and the Viet Minh was determined to remove this post in 1950 with the Border Campaign.

What to see, Tourist Attractions
1/ Dong Khe Fortress
The old fort is located on a hill in the center of the town with commanding views of the different roads passing through Dong Khe. There were different fire-support points at the fort and different concrete tunnels to connect these fire points in the fort. Visiting the fort and learn about the former battle is a great learning experience.
2/ Bao Dong Mountain
The Bao Dong Mountain is 20km east of the Dong Khe Fortress. It was from here that Ho Chi Minh observed the battles at Dong Khe Town during the Border Campaign in 1950. Climbing the steps to the top of the mountain is certainly not an easy experience at all. But once on the top you can have breathtaking views of the surrounding nature with several limestone mountain peaks and idyllic valleys. The mountain is close to the Duc Long Border Checkpoint between Vietnam and China.
3/ Trang Liet Former Battlefield
The valley is 20km from Dong Khe where the last major battles of Dong Khe took place and where most of the French soldiers surrendered putting an end to the Border Campaign with victory to the Viet Minh.
