The number of visitors to Hanoi in the first half of 2017 is 11 million of which 2 million are foreign travellers, an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2016. After several years of low occupancy, it is the first time that luxury hotels in Hanoi have rooms booked out from now until the first quarter of 2018.
Hanoi has 600 properties providing accommodation service, but luxury hotels are still in lack. There have been more and more new 4-5 star hotels added to the list, but most of them are in new areas of the city, far from the center. The central districts of Hanoi don't really have much land available for building new hotels.
Hanoi authority estimates that there are going to be 20 new luxury hotels and serviced appartments completed in the next 5 years in the city. In 2017 the city is planning to accommodate 23.6 million visitors of which 4.3 million are foreign tourists.
