Cat Tien National Park in southern is a favorite birding place for Vietnamese bird watchers as well as seasoned birders from overseas.
Cat Tien National Park covers an area of 71,000 hectares in Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc and Lam Dong Provinces. The area most accessible is in Dong Nai Province located to the south of the national park, hence the name Nam Cat Tien National Park. Most visitors to Cat Tien visit the south of the national park.
The national park has most of its area surrounded by the Dong Nai River which helps with wildlife protection. Cat Tien is in between the Central Highlands and the lowland area of southern Vietnam and the national park has a very interesting bird species of both these two regions. Besides, Cat Tien is a wonderful spot for watching birds during the migratory season which is from late September through April.
The birding season at Cat Tien is from November through May when it is dry and when the national park is home to endemic and migratory bird species. The rainy season is from May to October which may not be a great time for birding at Cat Tien National Park. A birding tour at Cat Tien may range from 1 day to 3 or 4 days that you can observe the rich avifauna here.
