These are notes on Vietnam weather in October 2025 and what to know before planning travel vacation to Vietnam in 2025, be it your family trip or your travelers’ Vietnam tours if you are a tour company or travel agency.
General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in October
October is autumn in northern Vietnam with dry or wet weather depending on conditions of a specific year, possibly some showers, pleasant temperatures (24oC-32oC) . It may be less likely but possibly there may be typhoons hitting northern Vietnam in October which often cause torrential rain, flash floods, and/or landslides in the far northern mountains.
It is more likely that there are typhoons in the Central Coast of Vietnam in October; if so, then it is expected that most places in the region have floods.
October is the rainy season in the Central Coast of Vietnam which is often caused by the Tropical Convergence Zone, and possibly by the Northeasterly Monsoon bringing moisture from the sea inland, and high mountains to the west of the region blocking clouds.
October is the high rainy season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam. The temperatures in the Central Highlands are 19-30oC and those in southern Vietnam are 25-32oC.
The prevalent winds in Vietnam in October are
- The Southeasterly Wind that affects northern Vietnam and causes moist air in the Red River Delta.
- The Northeasterly Monsoon which may come from Tibet or Siberia which causes cool weather in northern Vietnam and rainy weather in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
- The Southwesterly Wind coming from the Equator which causes daily rain in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
- The Westerly Wind, which is in fact the Southwesterly Wind, which may or may not affect the Central Coast of Vietnam depending on a number of other climatic factors.
October is the time that the Intertropical Convergence Zone has axis over the Central Coast of Vietnam causing the accumulation of clouds over this region, hence heavy and long-lasting rain here. It is the Intertropical Convergence Zone that causes the Southwesterly Monsoon more active, hence high rainy season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam.
Some typhoons heading to the North or the Central Coast of Vietnam are powerful enough to draw in winds in the south making the Southwesterly Monsoon even more active. If so, more rain is expected in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
