Vietnam Weather in August 2019

August is the end of the summer in North Vietnam and beginning of autumn in the North; August is the end of the dry and hot season and is about to enter the rainy season in the Central Coast; August is the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.

August is among the the most beautiful times in the North of Vietnam with mild sunshine and pleasant temperatures mostly. The region may still have high-temperature days, but the real feel is much better thanks to lower humidity and lovely breezes. And there are occasional rains and sometimes typhoons in the North in August. It is also possible that there are torrential rains in the far-northern mountains which may cause flash floods sometimes. The worst rains come when the region is influenced by a tropical depression or typhoon. The most vulnerable regions are the Northeast, the Northwest and the north of the Central Coast of Vietnam (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and to a lesser degree, Ha Tinh).

In the Central Coast, August is still the summer but the temperatures are nicer thanks to having more rains. In fact, the rainy season is about to begin here. The sun is less strong in August compared to June and July and the region is still influenced but to a lesser degree by the foehn effect.

August is the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam; there are more torrential rains in these regions and the temperatures are just pleasant. Cities in the South and some areas in the Central Highlands may be flooded due to excessive and sudden rainfalls.

It rains more in the Central Highlands and the South as the Southwesterly Monsoon is strong and the sea from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang (in the Rach Gia Gulf) is rough in August. The Con Dao Islands and Phu Quoc Island all have more rainfalls and rough sea during this time.
