General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in March
March is spring in northern Vietnam with temperatures pleasant mostly ( 20oC-27oC).
March is the dry season with pleasant or warm temperatures in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
March is the dry season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam. The temperatures in the Central Highlands are 17-34oC and those in southern Vietnam are 27-35oC.
The prevalent winds in Vietnam in March are
- The Northeasterly Wind which has impact on northern Vietnam.
- The Southeasterly Wind that affects northern Vietnam and causes moist air in the Red River Delta.
- The Southwesterly Wind coming from the Bengal Bay which is a foehn wind and which causes dry weather with warm temperatures in the low altitude places of the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
- The Westerly Wind, which is in fact the Southwesterly Wind, affects the Central Coast of Vietnam and part of the Northwest of the country such as Son La, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai.
In March, the Northeasterly Wind may cause light rain in the North. This is because the wind may brush more along the coast accumulating moisture before hitting the inland of northern Vietnam. The wind is often weak, hence dry weather in the Central Coast and dry season in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam. Due to the weak wind and due to some influence by the Southwesterly Wind from the Bengal Bay that the temperatures in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam may be warm sometimes.
The Northeasterly Wind does not cause rough sea in Vietnam in March.

There was moist air in northern Vietnam in the first half of the first decade of March 2025. In the mid of the decade, there was a strong spell of the cool Northeasterly Wind which brought dry air and cold temperatures to the North. The Central Coast had some rain after the arrival of the cool wind. The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam continued with sunny and dry weather, warm temperatures.
