Things to do in Son La Vietnam

Son La is in the Northwest of Vietnam, the provincial capital city of Son La is 300km Northwest of Hanoi. Except for Moc Chau Plateau, Son La is off the tourist track by far. - Get lost in the rolling hills and temperate climate of the fresh plateau of Moc Chau. It is quite popular for Vietnamese tourists in the summer and when the peach and plum forests and spinach fields are in full blossoms. In Moc Chau, you can cycle amid the rolling tea plantations and get yourself great photographs. You can also enjoy leisurely hike amid the beautiful flower fields or visit families who raise cows for milk to learn about their life. - Visit former battlefields in Son La. Yes, the province was where fierce battle took place during the Franco – Viet Minh War (1946-1954). The most famous sites are Moc Chau, Na San, Co Noi Road Intersection and Pha Din Pass.

- Take a challenge to conquer Mount Pha Luong. It takes a full day and it is a hard trek. To get to the base of the mountain in rainy weather is not possible though. The hike to the top is a real physically daunting challenge.

- Visit the rarely visited Thai communities at Muong La: Come and enjoy the pristine mountain landscape and get relaxed by hotsprings amid Thai villages at Muong La Son La. There are lovely rice terraces at Muong La should you come in the right time of the year.

- Take a motorbike tour through Son La and visit less seen corners of the land. It is an adventure of a lifetime and it requires good riding experience though. The best time to take the adventure is from December through April.
