Mount Chua Chan is in Xuan Loc District, Dong Nai Province. The mountain is 837m above sea level and this is the summit of Dong Nai Province, second highest mountain in Southern Vietnam after the ba Den (Black Lady) Mountain in Tay Ninh.

What to expect

Mount Chua Chua has forest and quite a few huge boulders on the mountain slopes. The nature is untouched and the trails may be steep at times. The trails may be very slippery when it is wet. On a dry day, a trip to the summit may take 2 hours for an averaged person.

For those who are not adventure enthusiasts you can take a cable trip up and down hill.

There are a few pagodas and shrines from the mountain base to the summit. The Buu Quang is the biggest pagoda at 500m. From the Buu Quang Pagoda and from the summit we can have good views of the whole area around the mountain.

There is a flat lawn on the top of the mountain that is great for overnight camping. There is a communication post nearby.

There is a road around the mountain base that fans of bicycle may spend a couple of hours biking around.

Weather and Climate, Best Time to Visit

Mount Chua Chan is best climbed during the dry season from mid December through February. It is still dry from March through April but the temperatures may be warm and the sun may get strong.

From mid May through August, there are daily short lived rains which may not be great for a mountain trekking adventure. It rains hard from mid September through October and sometimes into November which is not good for a trip to the summit at all!

How to get there

The mountain is 110km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City via the Expressway Long Thanh – Dau Giay, 65km east of Bien Hoa City via Route 1A.
