Public Holidays in Vietnam

The Vietnamese travel a lot nowadays and they mostly make trips during the Vietnamese public holidays only. This means that if your tours in Vietnam happen to have some days which are public holidays in Vietnam, you’ll more likely be rubbing shoulders with the Vietnamese tourists most of the time.

The Vietnamese have a few occasions for public holidays each year which are normally combined with weekend holidays and that makes the whole observed holidays very long ones. Besides some Vietnamese holidays are based on the lunar calendar which makes it even more complicated to most Western travelers.

There are 3 long public holidays in Vietnam April and May in 2019:  Hung Kings' Death Anniversary (1/3 Lunar Calendar), Re-unification Anniversary (30/4) and International Labor Day (1/5). The observed holidays are as follows:

The Vietnamese follow two calendars: Gregorian and Lunar Calendars. While Gregorian Calendar is for official work, the Lunar Calendar is mostly for traditions, spiritual life and events, and for agricultural work.
