Ha Tinh has a tropical monsoon climate: summer from May through July, autumn from late August through October, winter from November through February, spring from February through April. From June through November, Ha Tinh may be affected by tropical depressions or typhoons. It may rain for 3-7 days when affected by a typhoon or tropical depression which may cause flash floods and landslides in the mountains. Ha Tinh is a coastal city/province and may suffer the worst damage by a typhoon.
The Vu Quang National Park is 75km northwest of Ha Tinh City, right on the border between Vietnam and Laos. The total area of the national park is 57,000 hectares with primeval forest and plethora of endemic species.
